In the morning, the heavens opened and it began to rain. Bella grabbed her umbrella to get to school, as she walked out of the hostel the first
It was as if he was dead; he jumped up and scratched his head and smiled. The next minute he started wandering about town like one who was in total control of his mind. Not until people noticed that he had roamed the streets helplessly like sheep without shepherd. Okaro had just lost his wife, his two grown up sons, lost his mansion to fire outbreak, his pharmaceutical shop shut down by NAFDAC and also lost his bull terrier which was his household security.
"oh Chim, i have got no hope. Can i ever survive this shock? Indeed it is great calamity which had
befallen me," he paused. He stood to give it a silent thought. " but i have wronged no one, i would have called this nemesis," this was accompanied by a tear-drop which caused him so much pain to his eyes before it could drop. He was hot and sweat dripped into his eyes.
The situation was tearing his heart out. He was not comfortable in his short and T-shirt anymore. He put his hands over his head and was in a tearing hurry to strip himself naked.
"oh , no! Uncle do you really have to do that?" a voice whispered from behind. Okaro turned instinctively. It was a very little girl.
Okaro nodded his head in disappointment, still wallowing in sorrow yet he could see frustration writing all over Nneoma. Nneoma was looking at a man though deeply wounded but still has hope for a better future.
With a soft and tender voice she sang;
'I live all my life alone
Under the bridge;
I know not a mother, i know
Not a father.
Here i live on the roadside,
I lay head at street corner.
No food, no water,
No man to offer.
I live like no tomorrow,
No hope to live the
Next minute.
I live, but no hope
I live, but no hope
I live, but no hope...'
Okaro was astonished at the poor, stinking girl. "if this girl couldn't discover the true circumstances of her birth, yet shows no worry and has no tears in her eyes..." he wondered and looked at the girl pityingly.
Lesson:
No matter how bad you think your condition is there are others you are better than...
