In the morning, the heavens opened and it began to rain. Bella grabbed her umbrella to get to school, as she walked out of the hostel the first
An African man's lifestyle is always unique. An African man can ever be trusted when it comes to tradition. He abides so much on African heritage. An African man has the sense of innovation not when it comes to tradition. He may have succumbed in other modern ways of doing most of the things which whiteman succeeded to impose on the Africans; brought to us by colonizers couldn't influence him beyond that, like making him drop his belief that girl child is not equal to boy child.
To an African man, (Igbo man) he still believes that there is nothing like gender equality. It is good to let you know that an African man (Igbo man) value male child than girl child. In Africa, Igbo man values inheritance, heir apparent. You have to hear a story.
Nganga was a wealthy man, he married Nenye. "Nenye is beautiful, i won't eat beauty, all i want is babies, not even babies but male children, i need boys," he complained to Okoko. Okoko wasn't surprised to hear Nganga say that. He knew that his priority for marrying her was to have children, male children.
"my friend i will advice you not to predict, but to embrace any child she gives you," Okoko advised. "my friend don't say that again i need children but if my wife dare gives me a baby girl i will send her back to her parents," he said. Nganga is a man of his words and everybody knows that.
Not long after, he took another woman, though at first, his wife frowned at it but she soon get use to live with the fact that she shares her husband with another woman. Nenye begins to corporate with her co-wife not very long Olunma conceived.
Nganga persuasively asked her to go for scan. Olunma didn't buy the idea at first but Nganga talked her into it.
"the scan result is out, the doctor said it's a baby...," she stammered. He was losing his patience. "it's a baby girl," she said. He couldn't reply to this immediately, he kept quiet for few minutes, "you have to remove it, i don't want it," he declared. "what?" Olunma tried to argue. "i said you must abort that girl, i don't want it," he said.
Tears of Olumma could not make Nganga to compromise.
Few months later, Nenye conceived, coincidentally, Olunma was also Pregnant. As usual he asked them to go for scan. It has become his routine.
They women came back to break the good news. They were actually excited to give him the message. They colaborated, in fact they have it all planned.
Before Nganga could order for abortion, "Nze Nganga, we will never abort our babies. Girl child is precious just like a boy child. It has same value, no more gender discrimination, Nze," they women chorused. "what happened to my first pregnancy won't repeat itself, never. Instead be prepared to send us away, we are not scared of your threat. We have had it up to here," Nenye paused.
"We are hundred percent prepared not just to rally against gender discrimination but also to encourage girl child education. We must train all our girls alongside with the boys," Nenye said flagging up her eyebrows.
The whole thing got him agitated. He became afraid of his wives' revolt. When he realized that he would not be able to kick against their decision, he let them be.
