The Spiritual Husband a short story

Once upon a time there lived a certain girl whose name was Olaedo. She lost her way on her to the market which her wicked step mother sent her. Luckily, a certain stranger whose name was Igwe took her to his house. She grew very rapidly and schooled in the man's house. Igwe's wife was dead. He had left him with no child, so Olaedo became a source of comfort to Igwe. After her secondary school education when she had turned nineteen and Igwe who had been nursing the feeling of taking her as a wife but didn't know how to go about it. Igwe was at his late forties. He was a trader and lived comfortably with his income. Igwe's parents had seen Olaedo grew in their son's house, so when Igwe mentioned it to them they gave him their full support.

When he proposed, she asked him for a favour. "Permit me to visit my parents," she asked. But he didn't know her place. She lost her way before Igwe met her. So he had to go back to that place she met her and asked people about the Olaedo's parents because Olaedo managed to speak of her parents name. That name helped Igwe to find Olaedo's compound.

She didn't know that Igwe had gone to find out her village. So the thought of going to see her parents had been bothering her so much that it gave her sleepless nights. She said to herself that now that she had completed her secondary school education and now she had been proposed by Igwe, it was necessary for her to go home.

After discussing it with Igwe that night, he approved the idea to go and see her parents, who would turn his in-law very soon. They next day, they left for Umucheke. When they were near to the village, Olaedo was amazed to see that Umecheke roads had been tarred. Umucheke she used to know as underdeveloped community, bushes everywhere that made her lost her way that fateful day she was going to the market, was then a bit developed just a decade she was away. "Umecheke I left you ten years ago but I am back now," she said.

She was amazed how Igwe was able to find their compound. When they arrived at her compound it was like a dream to her when she saw Okoji on the throne instead of her father. She started asking curiously about her father, mother and Ugo her step-mother and daughter.

When Olaedo heard of her father's death, she grieved over the untimely death of her father, "Oh, Ugo, my wicked step-mother, who destroyed my family,  may I never have someone like you as a relative in my reincarnation," Olaedo grievously said. She quickly ran to her maternal home and brought her mother to the palace.

Ugodiya her mother had grown old. Age was not on her side anymore. Yet she was still strong and healthy.  Olaedo demanded to see Ugo but was shocked when she heard that Ugo had died mysteriously. Three days later her daughter Ugoyibo died on top of a man in a hotel, according to the priestess of the land the supposed man was her spiritual husband. Though that was superstitious Olaedo thought. When she asked of Ononwu, the reigning king Ikemba told her that he was still alive but was a living dead. He committed a sacrilege.

Onuowu came to the palace with his wretched body. He was surprised to see Olaedo, because he thought that she was dead. "Don't be surprised or afraid for it is still Olaedo not her ghost." "This evil man connived with my step-mother to send me to the Eke market on the forbidden day, when no one was to go out. They threatened to kill me if I refused and father and mother were away on a travel, so they ceased the opportunity, but thank God I was lost in a bush very scared  when Igwe came to my rescue. This showed that my Chi was alive if not I would been long dead and forgotten," Olaedo exposed Onuowu in front of the villagers. He never denied it; rather he asked for forgiveness.

After he must have confessed, the people started invoking the gods of their land to strike Onuowu to death. "May Amadioha cease your breath," the villagers cursed him. They sent Onuowu on exile never to come back to Umucheke again. Okoji made a feast celebrating the return of "the missing Princess". After the feast, Olaedo took her mother to the city of Lagos where Igwe's parents was residing so as to show her Igwe's family that saved and made her what she was.

When they arrived, Mbonu and Adaugo Igwe's parents were happy to see Olaedo's mother. So they all ate, drank and chatted. Olaedo was extremely joyous to have seen her mother again. After everything Olaedo and Igwe took Ugodiya to where they were residing in Ikeja. Ugodiya regained her happiness thereafter.

Things you should expect when you connect with your spot

Get out of the rat race. After all, if you win, you will simply be the big rat. Stop running in the competition. The only person you should compete with is yourself. "how well am I performing in my leadership spot," is what you should ask yourself. You have to know that the battery does not compete with a spark plug, because the battery knows the spark plug can never be a battery, and so on. They sit in the engine in their spots and serve the engine their gift without competing

Why does negative behaviour continue?

It works. There is some kind of payoff, some type of momentary satisfaction that is derived from not changing. The reward might be financial or psychological. Some people will continue unproductive behaviour to seek approval, acceptance, praise, or love. Others continue their unacceptable actions out of pride, greed or a sense of personal fulfilment. They may oppress others with their need to always be right because they treasure being right- even if it destroys a relationship.

Adding value to other people is the work of a positive influencer

As you move up to the higher levels of influence and become an active influencer, you can begin to have a positive influence on people and add value on their lives. That's true for any positive influencer. The baby-sitter who reads to the child encourages him to love books and helps him become a lifelong learner. The teacher who puts his faith, confidence, and love on a child helps the child to feel valued and good about herself. That boss who delegates to the employees and gives them authority as well as responsibility enlarges their horizons and empowers them to become better workers and people. Even the parents who know how to give their children grace and when to, also help them to stay open and communicative. All of these people add lasting value to the lives of other people. One thing is this, we don't know what kind of influence you have on others, today as you read this article. Your actions may touch the lives of thousands of people. Perhaps you use the opportunity
