One warm and sunny day, Linda and Caro barged in on Emilia and Bianca without a knock on the door. They were tough and nasty not even considering that their parents were eminent.
When they were admitted into the university, they never knew each other. Caro was a member of the Christian Union. She was humble and intelligent and so was admired by people. She was the only child of her parents. Her father, the reverend, loved her so much. One day when she was going for lecture, she met a girl. Her name was Linda. She was her course mate. Linda was wayward and gave her parents sleepless nights.
They became friends. Caro observed that Linda was attending to party every night. Not long after they had known each other Linda invited Caro to a party but she declined the invitation because she was not interested and she forbade such things. Linda tried to convince her that it was her father who was a reverend not her, meaning that she had her own life to live. That statement made Caro to succumb to her useless lifestyle and backslide in her religious life.
She joined Linda in attending parties and having "sugar daddies" in fact, Caro became a prostitute. When her parents noticed her strange behaviour, they found out that she was not the caro they had known. She was a disgrace to the family. They tried their best to bring her back to God but to no avail. Rather, Caro went to the extent to smoking cigarettes which made her to behave like someone who had gone nuts. Caro's mother died because of her reckless lifestyle.
Linda and Caro were falconers who trained innocent girls as their falcons and used them at their wish to extort money from men. They had made enquiry concerning Emilia and Bianca and decided to come and invite them to a party. Having given the invitation, they left the room. "I will attend the party, since they said that it is harmless," Bianca said excitedly. Emilia was amazed when she heard it. Bianca! I don't believe that you of all people would be such a kid to have been brainwashed by those imposters,"she said.
Emilia warned her against that party before she left to the library that evening. But Bianca insisted and went to the party that night. When she got there, the faces she saw scared her and before she could know what was happening, a man with fierce eyes walked up to her and forced Bianca into dancing with him.
Bianca despised the man, but she couldn't escape from him. She would rather face the music, since she proved stubborn by disobeying Emilia. Due to the fear in her, she tried to dance but was too clumsy and awkward. The man got her intoxicated with alcohol and raped her.
Early in the morning Bianca woke up only to experience pains all over her body and blood stain on her dress and mattress. She looked round the room and nobody was there. The only thing she saw was a white envelope, which enclosed a letter and an immaculate handkerchief.
The letter read
My princess I know you will go crazy when you wake up. But please don't overreact by trying to do anything stupid to hurt yourself. I truly feel for you, truly I do. I never knew you were a virgin. This white handkerchief is a symbol of your purity before the encounter. Go and collect the sum of fifty thousand naira from Caro. Use it to take care of yourself.
The man who danced with you.
After reading the letter she really "went spare" she felt like dying. Suddenly she screamed aloud. Caro came in " I hope you had a blast at the party last night," asked Caro. Then she presented twenty thousand naira instead of the exact amount. Bianca didn't mind about the money but demanded her virginity back. She didn't seem to understand that her virginity was irretrievable. Caro laughed at her. "Virgin Mary", please stop being juvenile, girl! Besides you are now a big girl. Go catch your fun," Caro advised. "You must be out of your senses, you fool," said Bianca as she pushed Caro out of her way and shut the door angrily.
It was incredible to her that they could betray her like that. When she got home, she started crying. What if she became pregnant for a complete stranger was the only thing that bothered her the most. She was no more a virgin but how it happened she couldn't explain. She was in angony and emotional trouble. Bianca was ashamed of telling Emilia about it. When she later narrated the story to Emilia, it shocked and pained her. "Anyway the deed is done. But it is not the end of the world. You will be ok," said Emilia.
Bianca wondered how her mother would feel about it when she hears it. Her mother won't ever forgive her because she had warned her to keep away from bad company for "evil communication corrupts good manner" in fact, she felt like committing suicide. Her mother had suffered to make sure she went to school so as to get a good job to help in training her younger siblings. She had lived her life under a single parent. Her father had died when Bianca was just seven years old. Since that time she wouldn't want anything that would hurt her mother.
To her campus was becoming precarious and unstable for her. She chided herself for being so stupid to have fallen for those silly girls, by going to that party despite Emilia's warning. She was contemplating on her present condition before Emilia walked in and noticed her mood. Then she started proffering her consolatory words of advice as she went close to her and put a consoling arm around her shoulder.
Each time she flashed back her mind to the incident in which she had lost her virginity, she felt enraged. During that period she could hardly be in a state of euphoria. All the time she was in a sad and vile mood. She neither attend lectures nor hang around on the campus. Bianca stayed indoor all day long, like one who was held hostage.
Her source of comfort was when she finally saw her monthly circle. She felt exhilarated to see it. She was then in a bullish mood. It was a great and happy news to tell, she thought. No sooner had Emilia arrived that day than she apprised her of it. "I have seen my menstruation, Emilia," she pleasantly said. Emilia couldn't believe her ears till Anita repeated it again. "Wow! That's awesome! I am happy for you," Emilia said.
Bianca brought out a can of juice, poured some in two tumblers and then served Emilia a glass while she took the other. Then they said, "cheers" and drank from it. That was a sign of celebrating that Bianca had finally regained her happiness and peace of mind.
Moral lessons
Not all that appears attractive are really beautiful.
Always look before you leap. Always obey any positive voice. Don't be quick to decide, listen to your intuit.
Do not be deceived with flashy things. And do not be a pathetically inept person like Bianca.
Always be security conscious and divert or distract attention of anyone immediately you find out or detect or discover strange movements they are out to hurt you.
Always be wise and use every little opportunity to escape from trouble, don't be too naive not to differentiate between deception and guilessness or disillusionment.
