The Weeping Lecturer

In the morning, the heavens opened and it began to rain. Bella grabbed her umbrella to get to school, as she walked out of the hostel the first

Integrity the manifestation of character

We shall first look into the meaning of the two; integrity and character.
              what is integrity
Integrity is the manifestation of character, which is oneself of self. The protector of leadership and the preserver of vision are integrity and character. Integrity is the essential prerequisite for successful leadership. Integrity is from the root meaning "integrated" or to be "one".

It's quite unfortunate that within this few years there has been alarming of
recession, people are suffering from hunger and starvation, unemployment and high rate or increase in cost of living. We applause bad government to bad and unqualified leaders. It has not been auguring well for those who have been looking up to leaders to guide them through the alternatives of daily living. Because we trust leaders to be examples. We have to also learn "a person of integrity and having integrity with people"

Many leaders could not themselves navigate the temptation of life. Our leaders are failing us as we repose confidence in them for giving us standard living and stable government. They are not "integrated", they lack the quality of "one".

              what is character?
Character is from four principles: fixed, predictable, image, and statue. Character implies something that's unchanging and firm. Fixed means it's stable and set; predictable means it can be trusted and sustain expectations; image mean its nature is inherent and reflects its essence.

Throughout the pages of recorded history, in the wake of human development and civilization are scattered and sad stories of great men and women who rose to impressive position of leadership influence. The exercised skill, courage, bravery, expertise, passion, power, vision and charisma, a sense of purpose, faith, resilience, commitment, dedication and all the other qualities and characteristics we admire in all leaders. Sadly most of them failed in the most common area of hunan experience, the area of character.

Having character and integrity means having an integrated self. Who you are, what you say, what you do, and how you appear are all one. This means there is no dichotomy or division in your person. You are not one thing in public and another in private. You must know that you are the same in the dark as you are in the light.

Character is present in what you say, and what you do is who you are. This is the missing ingredient in leadership today. And it must be restored to the position of number-one priority. It's so appalling that most of our leaders seem to be characters but have none. We have to make it happen, with our right character and integrity we can make good and great leaders of our time.

Note: there is big difference between being a character and having character.
Character you must know is what you do when no one is watching or what you do if no one would ever find out.

  1. Someone once defined integrity as when there's an alignment of your thoughts, words, actions and character in line with moral good conscience.
The majority of us Nigerians cannot fit this description.

    1. You are very correct. I found out that it's the hardest task for us to fit in- as men and women of integrity. Yet we have to make it happen considering the benefits...

  2. Thank you very much for your response and wonderful knowledge impart.
Remember integrity here is justified with two words, integrated (not segregated) and one. When you are being united in self and one in everything you do, obviously, moral, propriety in manner and conduct will flow...
Meanwhile we are still on the same train.

Things you should expect when you connect with your spot

Get out of the rat race. After all, if you win, you will simply be the big rat. Stop running in the competition. The only person you should compete with is yourself. "how well am I performing in my leadership spot," is what you should ask yourself. You have to know that the battery does not compete with a spark plug, because the battery knows the spark plug can never be a battery, and so on. They sit in the engine in their spots and serve the engine their gift without competing

Why does negative behaviour continue?

It works. There is some kind of payoff, some type of momentary satisfaction that is derived from not changing. The reward might be financial or psychological. Some people will continue unproductive behaviour to seek approval, acceptance, praise, or love. Others continue their unacceptable actions out of pride, greed or a sense of personal fulfilment. They may oppress others with their need to always be right because they treasure being right- even if it destroys a relationship.

Adding value to other people is the work of a positive influencer

As you move up to the higher levels of influence and become an active influencer, you can begin to have a positive influence on people and add value on their lives. That's true for any positive influencer. The baby-sitter who reads to the child encourages him to love books and helps him become a lifelong learner. The teacher who puts his faith, confidence, and love on a child helps the child to feel valued and good about herself. That boss who delegates to the employees and gives them authority as well as responsibility enlarges their horizons and empowers them to become better workers and people. Even the parents who know how to give their children grace and when to, also help them to stay open and communicative. All of these people add lasting value to the lives of other people. One thing is this, we don't know what kind of influence you have on others, today as you read this article. Your actions may touch the lives of thousands of people. Perhaps you use the opportunity
