The Weeping Lecturer

In the morning, the heavens opened and it began to rain. Bella grabbed her umbrella to get to school, as she walked out of the hostel the first

The stolen bride a short story

Once upon a time there was a little boy, Omekannaya was his name. Omekannaya was privileged to be the youngest rich boy from around town because his father a billionaire passed out on a ceremony and before he could get to the hospital he died.

Omekannaya was the only son of Ikuku Uga in Anambra State. And as custom demanded he was to inherit his late father's wealth. Controlling the father's empires was challenging to him. Late Ikuku Uga left behind many multi-national companies and built estates across the world.

Ezenwanyi-na-Uga as she was fondly called was his widow. Though he had other female children but patrialineal belief of Igbo tradition couldn't favour the girl child in spite of the fact that they were older than him. Unfortunately for the family he was the last child but fortunately for him he had all to himself but his disadvantage was that he was still young.

Omekannaya was only fifteen when his father passed on. So he was arrogant, rude and boastful. He never respected his elders, he was seeing everyone as nothing. He never listened to his mother and was not ready to take advice from elders. The death of his father left him with no choice than to unleash his immature mind and attitude. He was becoming unbearably arrogant and extravagant. He began to exhibit his foolery acts. He ignored every side talks. One of his good qualities was that he ignored naysayers. But then, he never kept good company.

Omakannaya turned eighteen and began to lavishing his late father's wealth. He started by sacking well-to-do workers, those who wanted him to run his father's companies well. He met Olisa in one of his father's companies on a Monday morning. Olisa was a secretary to the marketing manager. Since he set his eyes on Olisa he had never skipped a day without visiting the company.

They became friends was not enough, he had affection for her which appeared to be infatuation at first. It began to go deep. He was tripping for her and having sleepless nights. He started by taking her out on a blind date to one of the Chinese restaurants. He made a step forward, it was sudden and unrush they began to go to clubs, cinema and recreation centers with her. His love for her grew. Omekannaya began to spend thousands on her but shortly he bought her a car worth millions of naira but releasing her sisters' tuition fees was difficult for him. His mother was very strong to take one of her late husband's companies in her possession.

Now Omekannaya turned twenty and decided to marry. "I want our wedding to be one of a kind, a talk of this city and envy of all," he said to Olisa. Olisa didn't love him but she had to pretend it. She agreed to marry him. She planned with her boss who had eyes on her and she knew it. In fact, they were best of friends but he hadn't gone to bed with her.

It was wedding day, they walked down the aisle. After the reception, she left her pair of  Cinderella shoes and sneaked out of the room. Omekannaya came in after taking his bath and couldn't find her. "I know you are into games,  right. I don't want pranks this night," Omekannaya said thinking it was a joke. "If you talk we will shoot you," one of the abductors said. Olisa kept quiet, everywhere remain silent. She was left in an empty room, locked inside with padlock without food nor water.

She cried all through the night till morning. In no time, one of the abductors, Walker as they were calling him earlier came into the room. "Shhhhhhh!" he used his finger across his lips to silence her from retrieving her voice. He had actually come on his own. His colleagues were sleeping in the other room. "I added sleeping pills to their drinks. We have all night to enjoy ourselves," he confessed. It was then that Olisa knew he came on his own selfish interest, to satisfy his libido.

He dropped the keys on the floor to pull off his trousers. She realized that they must have abducted her for a business. They must demand huge ransom before she could be realized. Olisa thought it wise that her groom didn't deserve it after all. He had done enough kindness to her and her family. His love for her had no end. He had no second, his unquestioning care even when she never asked for it. She began to thought of running away. She had a plan.

"Wow, that's great. You look cute. I couldn't notice you the moment you guys came because I was blindfolded. Now I can see," Olisa said cheerfully. She moved forward caressing his shoulder. He felt warmth in her arm, acting delusional. She made him position himself well on the floor, she pretended to remove her wedding gown. She smashed on his budging penis and he groaned. Luckily, he didn't lock the door and she noticed the moment he entered, she hurriedly pushed the door in and took to her heels.

Though it was morning but darkness still covered the earth and she couldn't find her way but managed to get out of that building. Omekannaya had already informed everyone including the police of his stolen bride. It was this incident that humbled Omekannaya. He never wanted to lose Olisa. He kept panicking, begging his mother and sisters on the telephone to forgive him for his nonchalant attitude. He wanted to gain their love back so that they would help him find his stolen bride.

It was very early the morning, after he learned how to pray all thanks to the abduction incident, his profound love for God, he reposed confidence in Him as if he knew Him all his life. He knelt down that morning praying and crying, "Oh, God bring my bride back. I won't survive this oh," "You have already survived it," he didn't believe the intruder's voice. He opened one of his eyes and saw white before him, he opened the two and cried out.

Things you should expect when you connect with your spot

Get out of the rat race. After all, if you win, you will simply be the big rat. Stop running in the competition. The only person you should compete with is yourself. "how well am I performing in my leadership spot," is what you should ask yourself. You have to know that the battery does not compete with a spark plug, because the battery knows the spark plug can never be a battery, and so on. They sit in the engine in their spots and serve the engine their gift without competing

Why does negative behaviour continue?

It works. There is some kind of payoff, some type of momentary satisfaction that is derived from not changing. The reward might be financial or psychological. Some people will continue unproductive behaviour to seek approval, acceptance, praise, or love. Others continue their unacceptable actions out of pride, greed or a sense of personal fulfilment. They may oppress others with their need to always be right because they treasure being right- even if it destroys a relationship.

Adding value to other people is the work of a positive influencer

As you move up to the higher levels of influence and become an active influencer, you can begin to have a positive influence on people and add value on their lives. That's true for any positive influencer. The baby-sitter who reads to the child encourages him to love books and helps him become a lifelong learner. The teacher who puts his faith, confidence, and love on a child helps the child to feel valued and good about herself. That boss who delegates to the employees and gives them authority as well as responsibility enlarges their horizons and empowers them to become better workers and people. Even the parents who know how to give their children grace and when to, also help them to stay open and communicative. All of these people add lasting value to the lives of other people. One thing is this, we don't know what kind of influence you have on others, today as you read this article. Your actions may touch the lives of thousands of people. Perhaps you use the opportunity
