The Weeping Lecturer

In the morning, the heavens opened and it began to rain. Bella grabbed her umbrella to get to school, as she walked out of the hostel the first

Motherhood a short story

Agbomma was dark skinned, very slimmed, and tall, her figure shape was very attractive. 'It is said that in the land of the blind a man with one eye is King'. Agbomma was regarded as the most beautiful young woman in the land of Abbah. Her body stature won her the most beautiful even when she wasn't.

Abbah is a community enveloped with water. The community was well populated and endowed with natural resources. Gold mining was the major occupation of the people. Abbah was located in the out-sketch of Aro and had a very large land mass with high density. High chief Obinja was the head in fact, he was the village high chief and well recognized and respected in the community.

Abomma's father, high chief Obinja was obsessed with Agbomma that he restricted her from village boys. But something happened. One fateful day, Agbomma was alone in the sitting room with her father playing Scrabble. Suddenly, Agbomma began to feel tipsy. Eighteen year old Agbomma slumbered. She was wearing a mini skirt, a present her father bought for her on her last birthday.

High chief Obinja couldn't resist what his eyes saw at the first glance. He carried Agbomma to lay her on her bed. For five minutes he was there admiring his precious jewel. Within the next thirty minutes, he left the room.

She woke up but ignored the blood stain she saw on her panties and on the bed mattress because it was not much. She ignorantly overlooked the strange incident.

High chief Obinja was not a type that
frolicked with women. Since the death of his wife, Agbomma had been his companion, he enjoyed rowing in her company. He always warned Agbomma against guys who he always referred to as 'scallywags'.

Three weeks later, Agbomna's body temperature began to change. She vomited at any slight smell. Her hip and breast began to expand. She didn't know the meaning of the signs and she never deemed it fit to take the counsel of a mother. This was because her father had taught her how to isolate from people. She was always keeping things to herself.

This was the worst moment of her life added to the fact that her father never cared anymore. So, she decided to visit the community clinic. The laboratory attendant ran some rests on her. She returned the next day to have her test result. "Miss Agbomma Obinja you are four weeks pregnant," the doctor said.

"How possible could this be?" She began to imagine. "There must be a mistake somewhere," she thought. "No, this is not possible I don't even have a female friend much less a male friend and I don't visit anybody," she confessed.

"But that's the result of the test ran on you. You can  as well try going for another test elsewhere," the doctor suggested.

She left disappointed. She still doubted the possibility of pregnant virgin Mary in the Holy Book occurring again. "How could it be me? What would people say? They would probably say that I have been pretending to be a good girl all this while. I'm finished! My father would be disappointed at me," she cried.

Agbomma's belly began to swell every day by day like a balloon injected with air.

The next was Obinja finding himself before the shrine of Ogiri to take an oath of innocence. This was because the villagers suspected him due to his close relationship with his daughter. High Chief Obinja refused to take the oath because he knew he would die.

So, he was ripped off of his titles. Tradition demanded they confiscate his properties especially all his landed property before he must undergo the ritual cleansing with his daughter. That would be his only guarantee of associating with his kinsmen again if not they would be declared abomination and ostracized by the villagers for the rest of their lives.

Things you should expect when you connect with your spot

Get out of the rat race. After all, if you win, you will simply be the big rat. Stop running in the competition. The only person you should compete with is yourself. "how well am I performing in my leadership spot," is what you should ask yourself. You have to know that the battery does not compete with a spark plug, because the battery knows the spark plug can never be a battery, and so on. They sit in the engine in their spots and serve the engine their gift without competing

Why does negative behaviour continue?

It works. There is some kind of payoff, some type of momentary satisfaction that is derived from not changing. The reward might be financial or psychological. Some people will continue unproductive behaviour to seek approval, acceptance, praise, or love. Others continue their unacceptable actions out of pride, greed or a sense of personal fulfilment. They may oppress others with their need to always be right because they treasure being right- even if it destroys a relationship.

Adding value to other people is the work of a positive influencer

As you move up to the higher levels of influence and become an active influencer, you can begin to have a positive influence on people and add value on their lives. That's true for any positive influencer. The baby-sitter who reads to the child encourages him to love books and helps him become a lifelong learner. The teacher who puts his faith, confidence, and love on a child helps the child to feel valued and good about herself. That boss who delegates to the employees and gives them authority as well as responsibility enlarges their horizons and empowers them to become better workers and people. Even the parents who know how to give their children grace and when to, also help them to stay open and communicative. All of these people add lasting value to the lives of other people. One thing is this, we don't know what kind of influence you have on others, today as you read this article. Your actions may touch the lives of thousands of people. Perhaps you use the opportunity
